Ordinary People (
1980
)
Running Time: 124 minutes
Audience Rating: R (Restricted)
As the title implies this is about ordinary people. The dramatic element deals with how these ordinary people deal with the accidental death of their oldest son. His brother (Timothy Hutton) deals with it by attempting suicide. His mother (Mary Tyler Moore) deals with it by pretending nothing is wrong. His father (Donald Sutherland) deals with it by walking on eggshells around his wife and remaining son. All the performances, including Judd Hirsch's as Hutton's therapist, are raw, honest and deeply moving.
