The Shining (
1980
)
Running Time: 143 minutes
Audience Rating: R (Restricted)
Jack Nicholson gives one of Hollywood's most memorable performances as a writer who goes stark-raving mad and tries to kill his wife and son. But made this film really scary was the way it was filmed. Kubrick managed to give the Overlook Hotel a look and feel that was immense and eerie and he used that to supreme effect. Ultimately it is the hotel and not Nicholson that is the monster in this classic horror film.
